Radical Future(s): Civic Futures Remix

Radical Future(s): Civic Futures Remix - From Policy to Possibility A hands-on design jam to reimagine civic systems and prototype bold, people-powered alternatives
A hands-on workshop remixing civic systems through the lens of inclusion, access, and community imagination—turning policy into possibility

How can we redesign the systems that shape our daily lives so they work better for everyone? In this two-hour collaborative design jam, participants will explore civic systems through real-world scenarios and imagine people-powered alternatives. Using rapid prototyping and collaborative mapping, we’ll move from identifying barriers to sketching bold, actionable ideas for shared futures. Whether you’re a designer, organizer, policymaker, or curious community member, you’ll leave with fresh perspectives and tangible strategies for change.

Goals & Objectives:

By engaging attendees in active co-creation, this workshop aims to spark collective creativity, build cross-sector relationships, and demonstrate how civic systems can be reimagined to better serve communities.

Attendees will gain:

Experience with rapid design tools for civic problem-solving.

Insight into how systems impact equity, access, and community agency.

Connections with others committed to shaping just and imaginative futures.

This workshop will be co-led by studio b:ask in partnership with local civic leaders, designers, and community organizers. Together, the facilitation team brings expertise in systems design, participatory policy-making, and equity-centered community engagement.

Facilitators have led projects at the intersection of design thinking and civic innovation—including collaborations with city agencies, grassroots organizations, and cultural institutions—using creative methodologies to reimagine public services and community infrastructure. Their work centers co-creation, accessibility, and long-term social impact, ensuring that participants not only generate ideas but also leave with practical tools for ongoing civic action.

By blending design jam energy with deep knowledge of civic systems, the team is uniquely positioned to guide participants through a process that is imaginative, inclusive, and grounded in real-world possibility.
